Rock music alive and well

October 28, 2006

I enjoyed reading a recent NY Times article about a renaissance of clubs in New York for the rock music scene. Being a fan of rock and roll, particularly of The Walrus, I was pleased to see that “despite some high-profile departures” of rock clubs, the rock and roll scene “is as healthy as it has been in decades, with new clubs dotting the map from Midtown Manhattan to Greenpoint and Park Slope in Brooklyn.”

I’m really looking forward to the Walrus’ new CD, entitled “Uncovered,” which will be made available to the masses in late November. The Walrus will have a series of CD release parties in Bellingham where rock and roll clubs are — while not quite as numerous as NYC’s — plentiful.

I love rock and roll! And I especially love the Walrus. The new debut CD for this Bellingham classic rock band will feature a new song or two — 11 new rock classics, to be exact, and they are all originals. One of the new songs, Starcharter, is actually about 14 years old. But this is the first time it or any of the other original songs have been officially published and professionally recorded. I know all this because Starcharter was written in Philadelphia for yours truly, Capt. Kathy.

The song starts off, “Some will say our destiny … Is written in the stars and moon ….”
